On December 5th 2008 Sigourney Weaver hinted in an interview with MTV that she and Ridley Scott are working on an Alien spinoff film which will focus on the chronicles of Ellen Ripley rather then the Aliens.

I hope it's true.

Sigourney Weaver has revealed that a new sequel in the Alien franchise might not feature any space creatures at all.

The actress, who appeared as Lieutenant Ellen Ripley in the sci-fi films, confirmed that she has discussed the possibility of a fifth movie in the series with director Ridley Scott. She claimed that both agreed that the character should be resurrected, although the story may differ greatly to previous episodes.

"We'd have to go back to the drawing board on [the alien]. Ridley said that right away when we first talked about [a fifth film]," she told MTV.

"What we're interested in is taking the character of Ripley and seeing what other science fiction story we can tell about someone who has lived several lives."

Weaver also revealed that her iconic turn as the army officer is as much down to Scott as her, saying: "Both of us feel a kind of commitment to that woman. He's as much responsible for who she is as I am."
