Microsoft have announced that all Xbox original games played either on the original Xbox or through the 360 one way or another(download or backwards compatible)...will end
so that means we will no longer be able to play star wars battlefront 1 or 2 online
fucking unacceptable!!
April 15th will be the last day ...i say we get a SWBF night in before then...but it will have to be SWBF1 or on the original xbox for me,because i tried playing SWBF2 on my 360 a week or two ago,and yet again it wants to charge me for the DLC that i have paid and downloaded about 10 times already
other games,of course will be going the same way
Halo 2 Counter-Strike Burnout 3 Burnout Revenge Ghost Recon Call of Duty 2 Dead or Alive Ultimate Doom 3 Star Wars: Battlefront 2 Battlefield 2 Forza Rainbow Six 3 Call of Duty 3 Mechassault 2 Star Wars: Republic Commando Crimson Skies
i thought the games no matter xbox 1 or 360 were just played over LIVE and it was us who provided the P2P,so it comes as a surprise that they have been able to do this,i just thought it was one big service...that service being Xbox Live...not xbox 360 live or xbox 1 live
Microsoft announced tonight that online play for original Xbox consoles and titles - including those played on an Xbox 360 - over its Xbox Live service will soon be discontinued.
The axe will fall on April 15, and will bring an end to years of online play for games like Halo 2 and...whatever other original Xbox games people still play these days.
With this being 2010, it's not really that big a surprise, but Microsoft's explanation for the move certainly raises an eyebrow or two. Xbox Live's Larry Hryb writes:
I wanted to let you know that on April 15, 2010 Microsoft will discontinue Xbox LIVE service for original Xbox consoles and games, including Xbox 1 games playable on Xbox 360. Our first step in this process will be to turn off auto-renewals for those members who only use Xbox LIVE on a v1 Xbox. While I can't comment on the specifics, this change will allow us to continue evolving the LIVE service with new features and experiences that fully harness the power of Xbox 360 and the Xbox LIVE community. We did not make this decision lightly, but after careful consideration and review we realize that this decision will allow us unprecedented flexibility for future features.
Wonder what it is they're adding to Live that made them boot original Xbox support? A bigger friends list, perhaps?
UPDATE: Xbox Live's Marc Whitten has provided a little more background, writing:

Dear Xbox LIVE Members,
On April 15 we will discontinue the Xbox LIVE service for original Xbox consoles and games, including Xbox v1 games playable on Xbox 360 and Xbox Originals. I want to start by saying this isn't a decision we made lightly, but after careful consideration, it is clear this will provide the greatest benefit to the Xbox LIVE community.
Seven years ago we laid out our vision for the connected console when we launched Xbox LIVE. We believed then that the power of the Internet to connect people would revolutionize living room entertainment. It started with amazing multiplayer games, and we've since seen that bet pay off again and again with the launches of Xbox 360, Marketplace, Netflix and powerful social features like Facebook, Twitter and Last.fm. None of this would have been possible without the success of LIVE as a multiplayer gaming network.
There's no greater example of the power of the Xbox LIVE community than the "Halo" franchise. "Halo 2" has had an amazing run on LIVE, with a dedicated community more than five years after launch and well into the next generation of consoles. It has fundamentally changed the way we play video games. And while it's difficult to see that run come to an end, the "Halo" franchise continues to act as the benchmark for multiplayer gaming in this generation, with "Halo 3," "Halo 3: ODST" and soon "Halo: Reach" on Xbox 360.
Your Xbox LIVE community has grown to 23 million strong. And as we look down the road, we'll continue to evolve the service with features and experiences that harness the full power of Xbox 360. To reach our aspiration, we need to make changes to the service that are incompatible with our original Xbox v1 games. We will contact the Xbox LIVE members directly impacted by this change and if this includes you, I encourage you to check your LIVE messages and associated e-mail account over the coming weeks for more details and opportunities. We view you as a partner in this process.
We'll share more details soon, but in the meantime I want to assure you that the best is yet to come for Xbox LIVE. I believe we'll look back on 2010 as a landmark year in gaming and home entertainment, and I couldn't be more excited about what we have in store with "Project Natal" and LIVE. The LIVE community is the driving force behind everything we do, and it's because of the community that ground-breaking experiences on Xbox continue to be possible.

i only have 50 friends on my list anyhow,LOL
apparently all DLC has already been taken down...so if you didn't get all the Halo 2 maps, yer fucked if you wanted to play them before April,if you didn't get that space station for KOTOR,too late and if you didn't get charged for the 20th time for the SWBF2 DLC,well...its gone, all of it
And what space station?? I don't remember any space station in KOTR!?!
Back in March 2004 they came out with a little DLC called Yavin Space Station. Very small, but it was something. Basically you could get some High Quality Items there, which was all it was really good for.

yup,and i think there was some freaky guy working away on there, kinda like a shut in/recluse...no missions or anything so you are not missing much,it didn't cost anything though
I say Saturday nights from now until 4/15 are Battlefront nights. Who's with me?
Of that list of games these are the ones I have (and just recently repurchased from the break in, minus the 360 games because those haven't been replaced yet)
Halo 2 Counter-Strike Burnout Revenge----?----I have this as a 360 game so can I still play it? Call of Duty 2-------?-------I have this as a 360 game so can I still play it? Doom 3 Star Wars: Battlefront 1 and 2 Call of Duty 3--------?------I have this as a 360 game so can I still play it? Star Wars: Republic Commando
I'm curious about the ones I have as 360 and not original Xbox disc if they will still play.

i'm with you...well,that's the mental picture i have in my mind anyway
not really sure what you mean with the 360 ones..they will be fine forever(well until MS decided to shut down the 360 XBL servers),i still have COD2 and 3...there is no difference to those games or any games that are for the Xbox 360,its just Xbox 1 games that you wont be able to play online(i think you will still be able to play them offline/single player on the 360..if they are included in the BC list)
i have Halo 2 SWBF 1 and 2(but 2 wants me to buy the DLC ...again)
SWRC was a very enjoyable game online,i played it alot...for some reason i no longer have that title..same with Counter Strike, had a lot of laughs with that game and for some reason i don't have it in my game library anymore
