okay, maybe their wives are fine, and i made that part up
Infinity Wards is not a happy camp right now, seems like they have had a run in with Activision
the outcome....Jason West and Vince Zampella the heads of IW,were called into a meeting and never seen again,LOL..both of them were sacked
i think everyone knew there was unclean air between Activision and Infinity Wards...especially when Activsion had plans for a MMO COD title, only for Infinity Wards to say that their titles wont be MMOs....i wouldn't be surprised if this had something to do with 'Modern Warfare' title pretty much taking over the 'Call of Duty' title,at one point MW2 wasn't even going to be known as a COD title
although it has to be pointed out that Jason West and Vince Zampella have not officially been named as being fired
Statements from either party is probably expected
anyway anyway...the web is a buzz of this, here is Kotaku's take
Good morning, world. While most of you slept, drama struck Infinity Ward, the creators of the Call of Duty series, with allegations of "insubordination" from publishers Activision and the rumoured departure of the studio's two top men.
The news first hit yesterday afternoon, when G4 reported that IW heads Vince Zampella and Jason West had met with Activision, after which neither were seen from again by staffers and "a bunch of bouncer-types" showed up outside Infinity Ward's offices.
The situation between the developer and publisher had been described as "tense" for some time.
Things got interesting a few hours later, when updates to Jason West's Linkedin page revealed that he had ceased employment at the developer.
And then got really interesting when an SEC filing from earlier in the day revealed that Activision had launched an investigation into some allegedly iffy conduct at Infinity Ward, including "insubordination" and "breaches of contract" that affected "two senior employees" at the studio.
That's everything we've heard, so far. Fascinating stuff for the innocent bystander. But what do we actually know?
What's Been Rumoured
- That IW bosses Vince Zampella and Jason West have been fired. Neither the pair nor Activision have issued statements regarding the issue, so the nature of their employment (or departure) is yet to be confirmed; remember, the Activision SEC filing only mentions "two senior employees", it doesn't name names. Indeed, we haven't heard anything from Zampella regarding the situation.
- That Activision sent security guards to the Infinity Ward offices. Who those men are, who sent them and more importantly, what they were doing there have yet to be determined. All we have are reports that they were "bouncer-types", nothing more.
What We Know
- The Activision SEC filing is legit, and is concrete information. They are serious allegations, and will probably result in a major lawsuit.
- Jason West no longer works at Infinity Ward. His Linkedin profile page is legitimate, and clearly states that he ceased employment at the studio in March 2010. We just don't know why/how he no longer works there.
That's it. Be sure to separate the two when considering the situation, as things are still incredibly murky. We will of course update you (and this post) throughout the day as we hear more on the situation.
Microsoft have announced that all Xbox original games played either on the original Xbox or through the 360 one way or another(download or backwards compatible)...will end
so that means we will no longer be able to play star wars battlefront 1 or 2 online
fucking unacceptable!!
April 15th will be the last day ...i say we get a SWBF night in before then...but it will have to be SWBF1 or on the original xbox for me,because i tried playing SWBF2 on my 360 a week or two ago,and yet again it wants to charge me for the DLC that i have paid and downloaded about 10 times already
other games,of course will be going the same way
Halo 2 Counter-Strike Burnout 3 Burnout Revenge Ghost Recon Call of Duty 2 Dead or Alive Ultimate Doom 3 Star Wars: Battlefront 2 Battlefield 2 Forza Rainbow Six 3 Call of Duty 3 Mechassault 2 Star Wars: Republic Commando Crimson Skies
i thought the games no matter xbox 1 or 360 were just played over LIVE and it was us who provided the P2P,so it comes as a surprise that they have been able to do this,i just thought it was one big service...that service being Xbox Live...not xbox 360 live or xbox 1 live
Microsoft announced tonight that online play for original Xbox consoles and titles - including those played on an Xbox 360 - over its Xbox Live service will soon be discontinued.
The axe will fall on April 15, and will bring an end to years of online play for games like Halo 2 and...whatever other original Xbox games people still play these days.
With this being 2010, it's not really that big a surprise, but Microsoft's explanation for the move certainly raises an eyebrow or two. Xbox Live's Larry Hryb writes:
I wanted to let you know that on April 15, 2010 Microsoft will discontinue Xbox LIVE service for original Xbox consoles and games, including Xbox 1 games playable on Xbox 360. Our first step in this process will be to turn off auto-renewals for those members who only use Xbox LIVE on a v1 Xbox. While I can't comment on the specifics, this change will allow us to continue evolving the LIVE service with new features and experiences that fully harness the power of Xbox 360 and the Xbox LIVE community. We did not make this decision lightly, but after careful consideration and review we realize that this decision will allow us unprecedented flexibility for future features.
Wonder what it is they're adding to Live that made them boot original Xbox support? A bigger friends list, perhaps?
UPDATE: Xbox Live's Marc Whitten has provided a little more background, writing:
QUOTE
Dear Xbox LIVE Members,
On April 15 we will discontinue the Xbox LIVE service for original Xbox consoles and games, including Xbox v1 games playable on Xbox 360 and Xbox Originals. I want to start by saying this isn't a decision we made lightly, but after careful consideration, it is clear this will provide the greatest benefit to the Xbox LIVE community.
Seven years ago we laid out our vision for the connected console when we launched Xbox LIVE. We believed then that the power of the Internet to connect people would revolutionize living room entertainment. It started with amazing multiplayer games, and we've since seen that bet pay off again and again with the launches of Xbox 360, Marketplace, Netflix and powerful social features like Facebook, Twitter and Last.fm. None of this would have been possible without the success of LIVE as a multiplayer gaming network.
There's no greater example of the power of the Xbox LIVE community than the "Halo" franchise. "Halo 2" has had an amazing run on LIVE, with a dedicated community more than five years after launch and well into the next generation of consoles. It has fundamentally changed the way we play video games. And while it's difficult to see that run come to an end, the "Halo" franchise continues to act as the benchmark for multiplayer gaming in this generation, with "Halo 3," "Halo 3: ODST" and soon "Halo: Reach" on Xbox 360.
Your Xbox LIVE community has grown to 23 million strong. And as we look down the road, we'll continue to evolve the service with features and experiences that harness the full power of Xbox 360. To reach our aspiration, we need to make changes to the service that are incompatible with our original Xbox v1 games. We will contact the Xbox LIVE members directly impacted by this change and if this includes you, I encourage you to check your LIVE messages and associated e-mail account over the coming weeks for more details and opportunities. We view you as a partner in this process.
We'll share more details soon, but in the meantime I want to assure you that the best is yet to come for Xbox LIVE. I believe we'll look back on 2010 as a landmark year in gaming and home entertainment, and I couldn't be more excited about what we have in store with "Project Natal" and LIVE. The LIVE community is the driving force behind everything we do, and it's because of the community that ground-breaking experiences on Xbox continue to be possible.
okay, whether you know or not..i am a big fan of Sherlock Holmes,i have read the books Jeremy Brett is the best Holmes in Granada's series on TV,i have even visited the studios where it was made here in Manchester and walked down Baker street etc
so,here comes Guy Ritchie with a new take Robert Downey Jr as Holmes and Jude Law as Watson..you knew that already though
here is the trailer again
okay its 1891,and London is in its prime so to speak
Holmes and Watson are on a frantic run to stop Lord Blackwood(Mark Strong who has been in a few of Ritchies films and is in the upcoming Robin Hood movie) from continuing his devil worshiping and sacrificing,he has already murdered 5 women, they succeed in stopping him and a few months later Lord Blackwood is sentenced to death by hanging, before he is hung,Lord Blackwood offers Holmes a warning saying that there will be more deaths and that his death is only the beginning ...Oohh..big words!! However,a few minutes after the hanging and Watson pronounces that Lord Blackwood is indeed dead
A few days later Watson is preparing to leave 221b baker street and Holmes to move in with his fiance Mary Morstan when they are both informed that Lord Blackwood has risen from the grave and seen walking away, and so begins the case
If you are familiar with Guy Ritchie's other films maybe 'Lock,Stock and Two Smoking Barrels' or more so 'Snatch',you will certainly notice the style of cinematography and the way its filmed, the gritty look of late 19th century London is pretty spot on,down to the ships and boats that fill up the Thames and Tower Bridge being constructed
True to Guy Ritchie's other works, the best parts are some of the fight scenes, you may of seen in the trailers,it has slow motion fighting with Holmes explaining what he is doing and how he is doing, what you don't see from the trailer that right after those parts the whole 'fight scene' is speeded up to real time what Holmes explains in Minutes, its then repeated in real time in seconds
Robert Downey Jr certainly makes for an interesting Holmes, one we haven't seen before, but he seems to fit the bill quite nicely, even if the whole of Holmes persona seems to of been re-written especially so it seems for RDJ,but its Jude Law as Watson that really cements both his and Downeys performance as a double act, both are great together, and you can tell that they had fun playing the part, with both Holmes and Watson bickering at each other...never have i been so entertained by Jude Law,and never had i of thought i would utter that line
Joining them both is Irene Adler(Rachael McAdams)..let me explain,Irene Adler is the one woman Holmes is interested in,otherwise(at least in the books)he has no time for women and certainly no interest in rumpy pumpy, his fascination with Adler is not as much Love but awe,Irene Adler is more famous in the Sherlock Holmes world as being the one person who has outwitted Holmes(twice,so Watson says in this film),but Holmes admiration for Adler is supposedly as an enemy,as she is a criminal and he..isn't but here we have the female criminal helping out the Baker Street Duo to put a stop to Lord Blackwood
I can't say Rachel McAdams stood out as Irene Adler as it was all about Holmes and Watson, but she certainly didn't bog the film down
I enjoyed the film much more than i thought i would, the end was pretty expected and some of the puzzles throughout the film that leave the audience guessing is a little lame when worked out TBH
the movie runs for 2hrs 33 minutes, although it didn't really feel that long
i was wondering how this film had done, whether it had been a hit,as Avatar seems to of taken all the limelight..i found this on IMDB
QUOTE
"Sherlock Holmes" hit theaters at a difficult moment last year. It came out only a week after all-time box office gross record-holder "Avatar" did, and on Christmas Day no less. James Cameron's sci-fi epic has dominated the box office since December 18, and "Holmes" was overlooked by many as a result.
Well, not that many. The $90 million-budgeted action/mystery has earned almost $400 million so far worldwide, with a home video release still to come. That's successful by any estimation, and more than enough to warrant the heavily forecasted sequel, and soon.
so it hasn't done too bad then, and a sequel would be very welcome from my view anyhow
Sherlock Holmes receives 8 Metal Orphans out of 10
afterthought:i just watched that trailer again and most of the scenes with Irene Adler, her bending over in her corset or kicking Holmes in the balls,or even kissing him at that point wasn't in the film,i am guessing that those scenes were cut..it goes to a much quicker way to get Holmes Handcuffed to the bed
i hope you don't play these games anymore as EA are shutting down their servers that run them, starting on 2nd February
here are the games that are affected
